Rodney del Rosario’s fascination with the Earth, nature, arts and cultures started at a young age by the guidance of his grandfather. Growing up in Heerhugowaard, he was captivated by minerals & fossils and the stories they tell. This early passion set him on a path toward geology, where he found a deep sense of purpose in understanding the dynamic systems that shape the world. Fluent in Dutch, English, Swedish, and German, Rodney’s linguistic abilities have allowed him to connect with a diverse range of cultures and perspectives, enriching his personal and professional life.

It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change.

Rodney’s academic journey has been marked by rigorous studies and extensive hands-on experience. He is currently pursuing a Master’s in Bedrock Geology at Lund University, where his studies are further enriched by an exchange program at Utrecht University. His undergraduate years at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam laid a strong foundation in geology and geochemistry. There, he specialized in GIS and GEO data management, and completed an internship in energy usage modeling at GEODAN. His thesis on moon formation modeling at the VU Lunar and Planetary lab is a testament to his dedication and expertise. Additionally, Rodney has gained invaluable field experience in sedimentology across Europe, from Spain to Austria. His skills in polarisation microscopy, reservoir geology, and machine learning applications for geologists highlight his commitment to advancing the field and contributing to sustainable solutions.

Beyond his academic and professional achievements, Rodney has actively pursued creative and volunteer opportunities. As a freelance photographer since 2012, he has developed a keen eye for detail, capturing the world’s beauty through his lens. This creative pursuit complements his scientific work, offering a unique perspective on the natural world. Rodney has also held numerous volunteer positions in various organizations, where he has organized events, reached out to other groups, and worked in international and interdisciplinary environments. His ability to blend creativity with scientific rigor makes him a well-rounded individual, dedicated to both his professional goals and his passion for making a positive impact in the community.
